In Gaelic, the name of this cave is Slochd Altimen or ‘nursing cave’. This refers to a 9th century princess who fell in love with a shipwrecked sailor from a different clan. Fearful of the repercussions of their liaison, the princess is said to have hidden their baby in this cave. Price range: £1.00 through £75.00Just below the bridge where the main road between Portree and Dunvegan crosses the River Snizort, close to the Skeabost House Hotel, there is a well hidden and fascinating bit of Skye's history - St. Columba's Isle.
Here you will find ancient ruins and graves, stretching back over many centuries.
St. Columba is much better known for his association with the island of Iona, but this was the site on which he founded the cathedral of the bishops of the Isles. This was the centre of Christianity in the Hebrides from 1079 to 1498. There are obvious ruins of two small buildings, and the outlines of others can be traced. The island is peppered with graves, ranging in age from the 11th century to the 1960s. Many of them have legible inscriptions, and a few others have plaques showing transcriptions.

Price range: £1.00 through £75.00The Storr is a rocky hill on the Trotternish Peninsula.
The hill presents a steep rocky eastern face overlooking the Sound of Raasay, contrasting with gentler grassy slopes to the west.
The Storr is prime example of the Trotternish landslip, the longest such feature in Great Britain.
The area in front of the cliffs of the Storr is known as the Sanctuary. This has a number of weirdly shaped rock pinnacles, the remnants of ancient landslips.
Legend has it that Old Man of Storr was a giant who had lived in Trotternish. When he died, he was buried with his finger left sticking o ut, creating the ridges.
To get up to the Old Man, it is a constant climb. At first, the trail is wide and covered with gravel.
Your reward, if he is not covered in mist, is coming eye to eye with the Old Man of Storr.

South-westerlies are the most common In common with most islands of the west coast of Scotland, rainfall is generally high and the elevated Cuillin are wetter still giving rise to the name ‘The Misty Isle’.

Price range: £1.00 through £75.00Trotternish or Tròndairnis is the northernmost peninsula of Skye.
One of its more well-known features is the Trotternish landslip, a massive landslide that runs almost the full length of the peninsula, some 30 kilometres. The landslip contains two of Skye's most famous landmarks: the Old Man of Storr, an isolated rocky pinnacle, and the Quiraing, an area of dramatic and unusual rock formations. The summit of The Storr, on whose slopes the Old Man of Storr is located, is the highest point of the peninsula.
Purple heather is also known as fine leaved heath and bell heather. The purple heather is the first to flower (mid june) and grows on dry moorland and rocks throughout the island.
In the old days it had many uses from tanning hides to thatching roofs and making brooms.
